GLOSSARY OF VOLCANIC TERMS
A type of hydroclastic volcano that is generally higher than (generally >50 m high), and has steeper external flanks (commonly >25°) than tuff rings or maars (Vespermann and Schminke, 2000, p. 684). Craters within tuff cones are generally higher in elevation than the adjacent land surface. Tuff cones are made up primarily of juvenile clasts deposited from lateral surges, airfall, and associated volcaniclastic remobilization processes.
